The value of US retail sales fell again in January. Sales fell by 0.8% following a 0.9% fall in December. However, we would caution against reading too much into the weakness because it has been driven primarily by falling gasoline prices. Excluding gasoline and automobiles sales rose, albeit by a modest 0.2%.
