Energy shares led gains on Wall Street after oil prices surged on reports that Saudi Arabia and Russia had agreed to freeze output, while Treasuries tumbled. The dollar rebounded, posting strong gains against the yen and spot gold snapped gains.

Declines in consumer staples pushed indexes lower. Treasuries ended almost flat. Continued pressure that the Federal Reserve has kept interest rate hike expectations low pushed the dollar down, which in turned boosted the prices of gold. U.S. crude reversed losses to settle above $40 a barrel.

Fed’s favorite inflation indicator is not CPI or PPI, it is Core PCE.  PCE stands for personal consumption expenditure.  PCI measures actual and imputed expenditures of households.  Core PCE excludes energy and food. This morning Core PCE for February was released, it came at 0.1% vs. 0.2% consensus. Personal Income came at 0.2% vs. 0.1%
